# Rebuilding trust online /
## The project: /
Modern digital communications have a powerful effect on social trust and relationships. Some online platforms are breaking trust between individuals, groups and institutions, in part by rewarding extreme views and elevating misinformation.
This project examines how new online systems and platforms can help us rebuild trust to keep individuals and society strong.
Learnings will appear in a book to be published globally by Penguin.

## Goal: Learn about digital initiatives that nurture trust between individuals, groups and institutions. /
### The problem: Antisocial media /
Existing social media platforms are useful. But they have enabled the spread of disinformation and encouraged societal polarization in many countries. These adverse outcomes occur in part because social media depend on surveilance for advertising revenue, and in part because their reward systems (such as likes and shares) incentivize and amplify more extreme content.
### The goal: Learn solutions from g0v participants / 目標:從g0v參與者探究解決方法
My goal is to learn specific digital initiatives that nurture trust between individuals, groups and insitutions. These might include:
* social media platforms or hacks for existing ones that support more kindness and less polarization. (Example: [Front Porch Forum](https://frontporchforum.com/media/article68), a neighbourhood-connection app with a slow interface.)
###
* initiatives that fight the spread of disinformation online.(Example: [this story](https://www.dw.com/en/how-taiwan-is-countering-chinese-disinformation/a-62931086) mentions that Cofacts is collaborating with government to fight disinformation. Or the Taiwan Fact Check Centre's add-on for Facebook [here](https://tfc-taiwan.org.tw/topic/4112).)
> This is not an accurate description of Cofacts. [name=chihao]
>
###
* initiatives that create trust between people and government through collaboration and transparency.(Example:[Polis](https://pol.is/home).)
> Polis is not an g0v initiative. Polis visualizes opinions from the crowd. It does not necessarily create trust between people and government. [name=chihao]
